It's Saturday in Marshall City, and Theresa and her former
boyfriend are making their way down the trail to the quarry.
The kids love to swim in these old sand and gravel pits. Of
course they have to pass several "No Trespassing" signs to
get there, but maybe that's what makes swimming there so
much fun. Who knows? But this caption isn't about where
the kids like to swim, or why. It's about Kent.
The girl on the left? That used to be Kent. Kent was pretty
much a nerd around Waypoint High. He was too smart for
most of the kids, and school was too boring for him. And
Theresa liked Kent because, well, he could always fix her
computer when she messed it up, which was quite often. And
she liked to hang around with Kent because he was easy to
control. She talked Kent into wearing a CB-3000 device just
to 'prove' his love for her. Kent didn't really care. His mind
was busy with other things.
Because Kent found school pretty boring, it wasn't unusual
for Kent to leave school during the day. When he did, it was
generally to go to the library for research, or to the park to
read a book. That was until this year. Waypoint High made
an announcement on the first day of school that the student
with the best attendance record would get either a free body
swap, or a $10,000 cash prize. The contest seemed to work
pretty well because attendance that school year was the best
ever. Most students were, of course, going for the $10,000
cash prize. But not everyone.
It was down to the final week of school, and there was three
students who hadn't missed even 1 minute of school. Kent
was one of them, and he was determined to win, one way or
another. One morning Brad Pence awoke to find one of his
car tires flat. He was 7 minutes late that day. And Mindy
Voss was late 2 days later when her car stopped on the way
to school. Kent was declared the winner, and to the surprise
of everyone, he took the swap. He knew a secret: Theresa
boyfriend are making their way down the trail to the quarry.
